The 120-year Vimshottari sequence
The planetary sequence is Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury. Their full periods last 7, 20, 6, 10, 7, 18, 16, 19 and 17 years respectively. Your timeline begins within this sequence according to the birth Nakshatra.
Why the first period may start before birth
A person is usually born partway through the first Mahadasha. The remaining fraction comes from the distance the Moon still has to travel within its birth Nakshatra. A period beginning before your date of birth is therefore expected, not a data-entry error.
How to read Antardashas
An Antardasha subdivides a Mahadasha proportionally using the same planetary cycle. The active subperiod adds a finer timing layer; it does not replace the wider period or guarantee a particular event. Interpret periods alongside the complete birth chart.
