Calculating sunrise & sunset…
Find moonrise for the right place
Moonrise depends on location and date. The Moon rises when it crosses the local horizon; its phase alone cannot tell you the clock time. Start with the labelled Delhi snapshot or use the live location section below.
Why there may be no moonrise on a date
Moonrise shifts from day to day and can fall beyond midnight. Some civil dates have no rising event inside that date. At high latitudes the Moon can also remain above or below the horizon. An unavailable or no-event result must not be interpreted as midnight.
Moonrise is different from visibility
The calculated horizon crossing does not promise that the Moon can be seen. Clouds, buildings, terrain, atmospheric conditions and proximity to the Sun affect visibility. Crescent-sighting traditions can depend on observation rather than this calculated time alone.
Fasting and observance context
For a moonrise-based observance, first identify the correct local festival date and practice. Then use the local moonrise time. A generic moonrise result does not independently determine a Sankashti or Karwa Chauth fasting date.
